Workshop Overview: This half-day introductory course is tailored to Medical Scientists seeking to improve their fundamental knowledge and practical skills associated with malaria diagnosis. The course will provide a comprehensive overview of malaria species, diagnostic methods, quality assurance and best practices by combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on practical sessions and interactive discussions.

Learning Outcomes

  • Describe the epidemiology, clinical manifestation and distinctive characteristics exhibited by each plasmodium species.
  • Perform essential laboratory techniques for microscopic examination of thick/ thin blood smears and interpretation of results.
  • Discuss rapid diagnostic tests and their application in malaria diagnosis.
  • Review quality assurance guidelines and best practice measures to ensure accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
  • Critique patient case studies and the challenges associated with malaria diagnosis.

Tea/Coffee and lunch will be provided.  Please ensure to bring a white labcoat.
