Workshop Overview:
This day-long intermediate - advanced level course is tailored to Medical Scientists who already have some skills in malaria diagnosis. The emphasis will be on the identification of parasites by microscopy. The effects of anti-coagulants and drugs on parasite morphology will be discussed and participants will get the opportunity to examine thick and thin blood films from all species including P.knowlesi. The role for rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs), PCR and LAMP in malaria diagnosis will also be covered and the effect of HRP2 mutations considered.
Tea/Coffee and lunch will be provided. Please ensure to bring a white labcoat.
